Well this is that time of year when growers have a good idea of what they have in the patch to bring to the scales. So, I am asking any growers that have something special to contact me so that I can see if I want to clone your pumpkin plant.
I have upgraded my propagation equipment and it looks like I will have all the necessary parts together and functional very soon. While my overall winter growing space is limited I am interested to see how many growers out there have something special.
This will be 100% confidential, all that I ask is you tell me what special trait you have (ex. Est. weight, color, or % heavy) AND the seed. This way I will be able to try and select the best of the best for potential propagation.
What I will need from the selected grower(s) is simply, 12-18” of an actively growing vine (main, secondary, tertiary, it does not matter) with as many replications as possible, so stop pruning. I can do it with just one but more is better.
The process is not that hard nor does it require much time, for the lucky grower but realize as with any live product there are NO guarantees expressed or implied in this offer. Lastly, I want to keep this to USA grown plant material to eliminate potential customs problems.
Best of luck to all growers this weigh-off season and if something special happens at the scale for you let me know. (As always my e-mail can be found in the little envelope in my diary “Matt D.”)
Thanks!

Heck yea, your welcome to a clone Matt if your interested , Ill have to look and see what I have still growing on that plant , but Im pretty sure I have some new growth somewhere starting. one good thing about the clone is that you know the clone will grow that beautiful color orange for any of the orange growers out there,, well great chance that it grows orange anyway. I think the 977 that I grew this year (1385 Jutras x 1725 Harp) that your chances of that seed growing a great orange color like its mother will be slim, dont you guys think? I was lucky and did start another pumpkin off that 1385 plant and selfed the cross 34 days ago,, It wont be that big but Im really hoping to get mature seeds out of it, and you can tell its going to be bright orange just like my 977 is. what would you guys think the chances of that selfed 1385 seed growing orange like my 977? what do you guys think? because the 1385 doesnt produce very many orange pumpkins. ,,( Id really like to see Joe Ailts respond to this question also)

Steve, I was thinking the same thing. That's a beauty Brooks and it went 18% Heavy! That would be a great clone for orange lovers.
