This is a repost so Tim Pennington and Biz can let us know how much their pumpkins lost in the past month. I believe Tim had his cut off for around 1 month, correct me Tim if I am wrong.

pumpkin was in drive-in cooler at a fruit market for 25 days. Temps were set at 43 degrees. I had weighed the pumpkin and truck on a truck scale which weights to the nearest 10 pounds. the fruit weighed 1060 on Aug 25th. Offical GPC weight at Bear Wallow Farm was 899#. I reweighed the pumpkin this morning on the truck scales and it weighed 880#. Looks like the cooler really sucked the moisture out. Be better off in garage. loss in cooler was 170 to 180 pounds. About 7 pound per day loss. I was very suprised!!!

WOW!! that is a huge loss ! I would have never guessed that.
I have had one sitting in my yard covered with a tarp for around a month or longer now. After hearing that, I may take mine to get weighed again just to see how much it lost.
I hope we get some more of these examples, good info to know. Thank you Tim.

I think it was two years ago that OVGPG member Ken Ruble had his pumpkin officially weighed at the Canfield fair and then again, "exhibition only" at the clubs weighoff 30 days later. That pumpkin weighed 30 pounds less, or -1 pound per day.

5 years ago, my 1407 lost 10 pounds in 8 days between contests. I agree with Glenn - Tim's truck scales sucked.

How much gas did you have in your tank in each case? I think a gallon is about 9 pounds.
I do think a cooler would tend to dehydrate a fruit, probably not a good idea.

Im in the one pound a day club. I grew a 797 pound pumpkin that we took to Altoona that was reweighed a week later. After the four hour drive home and sitting for a week it weighed in the second time at 790 pounds.
