Taping 385” OTT, BoodahMan weighed in at 1,399 pounds – a whopping 18% heavy. The free 1622 Young seed goes to C.R.B.KinZ (Ron) from Sumner WA, who estimated 1398 lbs just minutes before MellowPumpkin (Josiah, B) clocked in with 1400 lbs even – sorry Josiah

I was impressed with how many contestants were within 50 pounds of the correct number. BoodahMan was an extremely hard giant to estimate due to his deceptive shape and dense hide. My own guesstamate prior to weighing was 150 pounds off the mark - and I knew the OTT measurements and did a whole lotta thumpin...
Good luck to all at the weigh off’s – may they hold together and weigh heavy!

Vince, congrats on a huge pumpkin my friend, I really think with out question if not for the bad luck that you would be taking a 1500 plus lber to Half Moon Bay instead of your already huge 1399 lber.
Congrats again, and I gotta say, you have one of the most perfect looking patches I have ever seen in all my years of growing. It sure does take alot of extra work to get a patch looking like yours is.

I want to thank Don Young for generously offering the prize seed for this contest. I have a feeling that by the end of the weigh offs, the 1622 will be in BIG demand...

Congrats Vince! And Brooks is right... Vince's patch is amazing. I can only dream of being so meticulous. This gets me to thinking... (always dangerous, be forewarned...)
We ought to have an award for the "best cared for", most beautiful patches. I think you would need to "average" a good size, like 1000 pounds or more... but then also have a patch that belongs on the cover of Better Homes and Gardens. I can think of a few growers that would be in the running.
