A pumpkin that tapes to 400 inches and has stopped growing or one that tapes 390 inches and is still growing with two weeks to go to until your big weighoff? I've been spending too much time watering and think of weird stuff like this. I think it is an interesting pumpkin grower personality indicator.

I'm still hoping for that first one that tapes 363"...

I'd like either but being a math guy lets have a look.

390 OTT = 1240. If it went 10% heavy it would be 1364 lbs.

400 OTT is 1337 lbs If it went 5% light it would = 1270 lbs.

It's a crapshoot either way but if the 390 is still growing, it may be the healthier fruit and with two weeks to go who knows. If it were me I'd go with the 390.

I am very far from that predicament, but I like to hold my cards so I'd keep the grower. Given a couple years more experience, I might change my mind.

Russ, I would cut them both off now and skip 1/2 moon bay.

I'd take either one...but if you made me choose I'll go with the 390. To me its still active and may have more of a chance to go heavy and could still get to the 400 mark itself with 14 days to go.

Oh Jim, I wasn't referring to MY pumpkins. My 400+ incher is still growing, but the others in the 390's are catching up.
