I've got a few beauties this year. Not so much competition size (although I'm sure that one is close to 200 pounds), but enough to WOW the neighbors on Halloween.
My problem every year though is that the stems on my Atlantics and my Big Maxes never dry into a nice, sturdy, attractive stem. They always dry up into some little curly, pointy, afterthought of a stem.
Is there some secret to getting a nice strong handle for my pumpkins?

The Atlantic Giant and Big Max varieties are known for having "soft" stems unlike the hard, woody stems field pumpkins boast. There isn't much you can do unfortunately.

Oh well, at least now I know it's not something I'm doing wrong.
Thanks!

You might want to try a new variety next year. The Phat Jacks have a nice shape, beautiful color, plus a thick dark green stem.
