Clay loops work descent. You can get them at the craft store. God post , I would like to hear what other people have to suggest.

It really depends on the texture of the fruit..Some are like carving a soft cheese. I have had other that are like a water logged and rotting wood that you just say its a jack o lantern

Clay loops work best. I carved this one using only a grapefruit spoon and a kitchen knife. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/displayphoto.asp?pid=4794&gid=-38707

I carved this one with woodcarving tools and a knife. It was my first pumpkin sculpture. I am looking into some clay loops, I think they would speed things up. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=144625

I use loop blades for an exacto knife for roughing but most of the work is done with a lemon zester. I use a knife for doing through holes and a melon baller for pupils. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/DisplayPhoto.asp?pid=6428
