a little birdy has been flying around telling me that at least three 1,500 - 1,600 + pounders will be weighed from mass, one or two from n.h., and possibly one from ri.
i also got a tip that the ohio valley/pa area will again be loaded to the gills with monsters again this year.
i have also seen some really big pumpkins at several of the bp diary posts. shazzy has a great one for sure.
all in all. i would not be surprised to see the wr fall a couple times during the month of october. me? ill be back next year . for this year im in the kiddie patch...lol

one more thought as the season winds to an end.
for those that truely are in competition you have to know that with the amount of growers building every year, coupled with the valuable information passed on in several of these great club newsletters? that just about anyone thats willing to put forth the effort, invest in ammendments, soil tests, missed weekends at the beach, dirty knees and yes, even a bad heat rash (lol) can do it.
theres a reason why there is only a relative small group of growers world wide that can consistantly produce show stoppers year in and year out. COMITTMENT TO EXCELLENCE. (AND LETS NOT FORGET LADY LUCK. SHE NEEDS TO IN IN YOUR CORNER FROM TIME TO TIME AS WELL)
but i will say this as well. this year there should be several relative unknowns that will set foot into the heavy hitters ranks.a testament to those growers, newsletter publishers and book writers, who have put this information into the main stream.

Orange. This sight is full of willing people that would love to help a new grower. My advice would be to join a club. Get involved as much as time allows. Find several growers who produce big ones. Stick to them like glue! Be a pain in the ass. No matter how things seem. Dont give up and continue to plug away. By doing this and sacrificing. Newer growers as well as the heavies will come to you and get ideas. I have no shame to ask or show up at Mike's house and drill him for info. Even when he's annoyed i still keep the questions rolling. He wants to see me grow em big. And it'll be worth it when it gets weighed.

Orange,
http://www.pgpga.com is the web site for Pennsylvania giant growers.
Head on over and check it out. Odds are good someone in the club is nearby and willing to mentor you.
In the meantime, get a soil test and start getting your soil ready for next year.

I'll agree with Steve....Join a club it makes the season so much better and it's like you have a whole crew in your corner....Great source for seeds advice, and general frendships as well as new ideas. And I must tell you there's no such thing as a secret in a club..is there? lol!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Sandbaggus... a big pumpkin is the ones in line to be weighed AFTER yours, not before. :)
If the forklift puts yours by the kiddie pen; time to get into the adult beverage and dream about next year.
