Orange or yellow exudate spells fusarium. Clear should be OK.

Spray it with some peroxide -- 6% was recommended to me (I get 40% at Beauty Supply store and cut to 6%) and some kind of fungicide (I use captan -- others like sulfur), if it is more than just a very small amount, put a fan on it. If you can keep it dry it should heal. I've healed 6 junctions this way over the coarse of the last 4 weeks. The vine is still healthy and growing my newest little one. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=144754 which hit 124 lbs today at day 23.

Thanks. Now I have a back up plan. I painted the vein with captan paste and sat a fan on it for most of the day yesterday. Everything was holding today.

i got 6 junctions covered on my 991 plant. as they get old they get gnarley and woody just like a stem can and fissure. clean the sap from the fissuring down to healthy tissue with 10 percent bleach, allow to dry, and put a table over them to keep dry. use a fan on the persistant weepers. i got 6 tables on the main with tarps over the tables to keep em dry. wet fissured areas are places just waiting to rot. first fissure started on day 2 of the pumpkin about 2' from the stump and the last one about 3 weeks ago 3' from the pumpkin. all healed with some work and luck.
