The weather outlook is pretty grim.

May your families and your plants make it through it. My mom and one brother are still living in Mass.

Hey Steve more than N.E. Look out Nova Scotia ! It does appear to be getting a little weaker ...

Even if it makes landfall you shouldn't get the worst part of the storm. The right side of hurricanes are stronger.

The northeast quadrant of the storm's eyewall is traditionally the most intense, although on the ground, without specific statistics to tell you, the difference in potential damage is probably marginal when the cyclone is this intense. The good news is Earl is more-or-less following the most reasonable predictions, so no major surprises for North Carolina or New England.

Nic I do have to say that is the worst response to a post like this I have seen yet. When the weak side of the storm knocks trees down and the the 30 foot seas rip the roads from the shore line, I'm coming to get you so you can help fix it. Thanks for your concern.

By the way everyone else thanks for your honest wholehearted concern. I hope the storm is a lot weaker than they predicted, the riptides from the much weaker, further out to sea hurricane Danielle already killed one fisherman here. so much for the weaker side HUH Nic!!!!!!

Bry-John, Kevin, Terry and myself are just some of the people in the VGVGA that are concerned about you and other growers we know "down south."

Keep us updated. You're in our thoughts and prayers.

All the best for you and yours, bro.

Bry it is the weaker side. If you were on the right side you would not be posting right now. It is still very strong just the NE is getting the weakest part of the strong hurricane.

85 to 115 mile hr winds by the time it reaches New York is still definitely nothing to sneeze at, its sure not a sprinkle of rain like Nic may or may not think,,

Im glad to see its not in the 140 to 160's like it was and is calming down some, but still 85 plus mile an hr winds will do alot of damage espically when its at ocean where it meets land. Hold on guys and be safe.

i've been thru 2 major hurricanes in 4 years . i have seen both sides of the storm . they were both bad! we will be praying for all our east coast friends .

Nic, what's your point? Are you trying to argue that people in the path of the storm are inherently out of danger because you believe the northeast quad is the only severe area of a hurricane? I've studied meteorology for most of my life, so I can say with all confidence that you're not going to get anywhere with this debate.

How do you say that. The whole thing is nasty. I was in a tropical storm not a hurricane and it messed up a lot. We couldnt get anywhere with in 3 miles of the river. The beach was screwed up pretty bad, and people died. So you cant say dont worry becuase its still really bad no matter what part your in.

I should have used the word relatively weaker because the weak side is strong too just relatively weaker to the other side which is well off the coast. I did not say it is just a sprinkle. I know that there are still horrible conditions up there. I know it is life threatening. Just saying it could be a whole lot worse. Sorry

Nic, you don't know weather until you've cowered in a ditch with 100 plus winds aiming anything formerly nailed down possibly your way right then. Not just hurricanes can do that. So can tornados, microbursts, tornadic shear winds and front range assisted wind gusts... try hanging onto a car while being sandblasted with sand and gravel with 93-112 wind gusts and sustained of 75 because you can't get inside or get anywhere else and it came up on you like a flash...

Doesn't matter where it is aimed, if it's bad weather and you can possibly get some of it; it's not good news. If it's on the doorstep you have every right to worry. Strongest side doesn't matter as much as what DOES show up. That's a semantic...

I'm hoping everyone along where Earl tracked and is tracking gets off easy and comes through safe. Trees can be cleaned up, houses rebuilt, and pumpkins grown again.

Well Stratford survived a tornado this year but there won't be any hurricanes.

Southwestern CT dodged this one. May we all be so lucky.

Bry--I hope your patch and property didn't get damaged from Earl.

I'm glad to see that the storm wasn't as bad as it could have been.

Have a beer for me when you celebrate dodging the bullet.

Looks like we may have dodged a bullet. The storm shifted east now Bridgewater, Halifax are gettiog the brunt of the storm. It was a dicey drive to Digby this morning but a lot calmer now. Still expected to get 3-4 inches of rain.
