I'd like to thank everyone who have shared their knowledge and effort so far over this growing season. My season started off by a buddy telling me he saw some big pumpkin seeds at Lowes and challenged me to a grow off. I took the bet, and just happen to stumble along this site while "working". I have learned a ton this year from fert programs, plant layout, irrigation, powdery mildew, vine borer, squash bugs and spider mite control. I had issues with all 4 and still have a thriving plant from reading posts in this site as far back as 2003. My buddy found some 10 step program online and he thought he was ready to go. Well, he's got a 20 pounder and his plant is now done due to mildew and borers. I beat him by over 600% in weight and have another still growing so he owes me some beer.
For next year I have already picked up one of Don L's books, plan on getting soil tested (didn't know that even existed before), and plan on using proven seeds. My wife and I are currently looking for a new home and the first thing I do when looking at new homes is check the yard for potential spots and sun exposure! Thanks again,
Luke

I am very much looking forward to hearing all about your growing season next year. Just like you, if I ever move from this postage stamp piece off property that I currently live on, the first thing that I will be checking out is the yard and how big I can make the patch.

Good for you Luke, you have been bitten by the bug. When looking for a new home, make sure you can get heavy equipment into the patch to remove your giant pumpkin.
