found my stump foaming when cutting for svb. I have one side of the stump opened up all the way to the ground and a hole all the way through the stump to keep the foam from moving up the vine but the foam is coming from underground. I have had fans going used sulfer powder it still is foaming out onto the ground. My question is if I keep the foam from moving up the vine will it be ok or will the damage creep up the vine anyway? should I cut it off and keep it from spreading

Kgus, been dealing with foaming stumps for a while, as long as I would go up the main vine and cut it off where it looked healthy I have always been able to grow my pumpkins the rest of the way out, I have grown many many pumpkins on half of main and with no stump for years,,lol with very good daily gains still, and for me after cutting the bad part off it has never ever spread to kill the entire plant. Foamers are the pits once you get them after all that hard work is completed and your ready to sit back and watch your pumpkin to start putting on that massive weight I know, but hopefully we will figure out what causes them one day, cause when we do I know we will see ALOT of huge pumpkins out there.

i agree with bb. at this point id cut the base away and get to a good piece of main ( an area where no foam is visible inside the cut)

I agree also, cut the main, until you see good vine. I had to do this and the pumpkin is still growing. Also the secondaries that were attached to the cut main are really making third growth like crazy. The are not attached to the main, the main was cut and removed from the patch. Its just the secondarys that are rooted making new growth. Boy, these plants really want to grow! Good luck.

Well It was hard thing to do but I bit the bullet and cut the stump off there wasn't any green between the ground and first secondary. I did loose the first secondary I only had a little good tissue left holding it to the main. but below ground the stump had some green tissue. No more foam thats the good thing thanks for your help guys
