Subject: A question on plant age vs time of season. pap?

I didn't get in the ground till May 22. What slows a pumpkin down more, A plant that is spent or the shorter days come mid September? This goes out to anyone, I just respect Mr Wallace.

Shaker i grow in utah at 6500 feet,, so,, here its a question of timing and season,, building a full blown greenhouse to compete.. but early starts are important,, so i dare say.. earlier is more important.. if the temps are rite, june was not good to us this year.. ,, Curt

a plant thats SPENT as you put it, is more likely to have less production of growth going forward than a good looking plant with shorter days of sunlite. of course we must also take into consideration days from pollination as even a great plant will only produce growth for a certain period of time. a healthy looking plant with good leaves should produce better even with shorter days of daylite though.
