My granddaughter & I have undertaken growing a giant pumpkin for the Damariscotta, Maine PumpkinFest. It's happily growing.....BUT! What are you guys using for measurement for weight? I've been given 2 different charts - one works out to 142#, the other to 219#, help!!!
Thanks!

Thanks to all of you! We're proud to announce that the baby is a whopping 237 pounds, growing 9 pounds a day...not a record, but we're pretty pleased! (the last time we grew a pumpkin, it was about 10 pounds and the deer ate it!)
Oct 3 is the weigh-off, will let you know how we do........so far keeping away the powdery mildew & bugs, and all seems healthy..just starting to turn orange by the stem......
Many thanks from us again!

We've also been told to cover the pumpkin on sunny days to keep the skin supple.......that work for you guys??

yes cover with a white sheet or put a shade over it -- I used a 6x8 silver tarp about 2.5 feet above it -- working great. Keeps the sun off except early morning and late-evening and temp is about 15-20 degrees cooler than in the beating sun.
