I know that cantaloping of the pumpkin skin is somewhat a sign of maturation. Does it indicate anything else in your experience?

In most cases that I have seen it's a good sign that your pumpkin will go heavy. If you look at a pic of the 1631 McKie 07 it looked just like a big cantaloupe. The 1658 Young also looked like a big cantaloupe along with the 1611 Daho, 1596 Wallace and 1579 Revier. They all went heavy.
Hope this helps.

My pumpkin is "cantaloupeing" where it got scratched up as a young fruit, so I guess it can also be a sign of scar tissue.

Good sign of heavy yes... and that growth may slow now that it's showing strongly. Some lines seem to like to cantalope.

I don't agree with the cantalouping = heavy. There are a lot of fuits out there with mild to heavy cantalouping that didn't go heavy. I haven't seen any connection with cantalouping being an indicator of anything, in my experience.

If it has 1068, 1450, or 1502 Wallace, it seems to like to Cantalope....
