Just wondering if that by allowing the main vine to run out past a set fruit that the leaves produced could in fact help with the growth of the fruit or is that strictly limited to what the fruit has before it? Thanks for any thoughts!

absolutely back feeding does occur. especially as the older part of the plant becomes less productive. even in instances where the main has to be terminated or cut back the plant will continue to produce from growth past the pumpkin.

Thanks pap...that's music to my ears because like you said my older leaves have been taking the brunt of wicked heat this year and I have been slowly clearing them out. I'm at 268 ott and my goal was to peg 287 ott (5 bills) for my first year. Just wanted to make sure my plant had enough oomf to put me to that magic number!! Thanks again, Erik
