Have a big pumpkin, 210 lbs not bad for our first year, just stopped growing last 2 days, everything seems fine, still shiny and hard and no signs of borers??? We have had 5 days of 105 heat index, can a pumpkin shut it self down from growing due to heat, then start back up or no>???

I'm close to you and I had one shut down after day 25. It went dull though and really got big ribs. If it is still shiny, hopefully it will pick back up when this heat wave ends Sunday\Monday. Today and tomorrow at 110 sure doesn't help though. Kepp it shaded and watered. good luck.

in over twenty years of growing i have never had a fruit stop growing and start up again. some will slow with bad weather and could gain a bit back when the weather clears but stop and go? could be the high heat shut um down. pap

I'm with Pap,
my experience is that heat is a possible cause, but pretty unlikely. Pumpkins tend to like heat as long as the fruit is somewhat protected and doesn't get too hot and if they are getting enough but not too much water. The likelihood of the fruit starting to grow again after stopping completely is next to zero.

Tuck, if it is done, 210 is great for your rookie year. I'd be proud of that. Mine stopped at 150lbs and all my hope is in my new 8 day old. It's a Lowes AG seed so definitely a long shot to hit 300 (my goal).
Who knows, your pumpkin might go heavy too.

I've had my 1054 fruit slow down to 7 lb. Gains 2 days in a row and then jumped back up to 19 lbs a day after the weather cooled a bit and applying a 0-0-30 feed but it never actually stopped though so maybe the heat but what the heck do I know! Just my 2 cents!

I had my pumpkin last year stop making gains. It seemed to stop. It later went 30% heavy. Maybe it was working on the inside. I dont think it ever will ever grow again once it stops. There was a reason why it stopped.
