Little-TON - Colorado

Vertical.....one at 12 O clock....nother at 0600....DoeZ not appear to be Stem stress.....What to do...?

Dont Tell him?

Probes OK growing 30 lbs day plus still....

Fill the crack with a Captain?

Fill it with Latex Caulk?

DOeZ he have a chance....We got 6 weekZ left....before the weigh off......

No caulk ole.captan is ok-put something(to make a front porch -balcony) over the stem area so it can stay dry

use daconil (sp?),, paint it on straight from the bottle, then put a fan on it,, no problemoooooo after dat.

Gotta be stem stress, the stem connected to the vine has to be lose, if you cant wiggle the vine that is attached to the stem in all directions with your little pinkie you have stress somewhere with your stem.

I had two at the 12 and 6 spots. I cut the stem going with the split, and put Captan on it. The pumpkin went from growing CC 4+ inches to around 2.5" daily. It is still healthy, and shows no signs of rot.

I'm having the same trouble , at least 4 stem splits into the shoulder area .Spayed daconil ,sulphur dust and a fan going constantly for the last month, they reach a certain point then ,stabilize .My main has got wiggle room in it ,so I don't think it is stressed, I was thinking it was a genetic thing .Do some pumpkins tend to do this ,or is it always a stress on the stem that causes the split? I never had a pumpkin do that before ( I've grown 5),so any input would be helpful..lol..
