well this is maybe a stupid question but when the leafs of your plants start to die do the roots under it still take up nutrients??

Rooted shouldn't die unless the plant itself is dying. If the leaves are getting old and dying off the roots will still take up the goods. The first 10' of vine after my stump on my marrow have no leaves at all and roots are coming out all over the place.
