Noticed lack of pumpkin growth last few days. With further investigation I found a splint in the main, underneath and lengthwise from one tap root to the next about two feet back from the pumpkin. Want can cause this??

stem stress from pumpkin growth. if you can not wiggle your vine easily on either side of the pumpkin stock you have to loosen by cutting tap roots.

Lengthwise stem splits seem to be caused here with a growth spurt,,usually water induced. It bares watching and keeping dry if necessary, but should not affect fruit growth much if at all.
My 1116 last season (largest on a bad weather year) had a 2ft open split on the main for all of the growing season.

Vine wiggles easily. I cut the tap roots away about 2 weeks ago. Large rain last week with some wind. Would it help to try to bury that section?

got a nice 8" split on the main leading into the fruit on one pumpkin. lengthways is no big deal. it was an expansion crack afte 7" of rain in 2 days. oozed and was cleaned and healed and dry and applied captan an it is fine. pumpkin still growing.
