For all of you who have "minor" stem splits it could be worse, you could be fighting this.

That stinks Paul, I hope there is some chance of saving it.

It looks awful but it hasn't breached the cavity yet. As long as it doesn't I'll be ok, sulfer powder & a fan goes a long way.

We should all learn how to graft plants.LOL We could prevent splits. We could get some vine from a tertiary and fill in the split. lol

I actually squared off the largest split trying to prevent it from spreading.

I hope it holds for you. Mine busted all through it either the same day or shortly after. I harvested it last night. Busted completely around it and in several directions. Pics posted to my diary awaiting review.

Huff is there anyway you can push that pumpkin foward (not back away from the vine) to relieve the tension? it looks tighter then a banjo string to me. But Im just guessing here by the pic, but do you think if you could move that pumpkin twards the main it will relieve some tension on it??

I scooted it foward a few inches Brooks. I hope she holds, 20 lbs a day aint great but a steady 20 lbs over a month & a half is.
just goes to show how important it is what you put under the pumpkins. I always put down sand, then a piece of mill fabric followed by more sand then another piece of mill fabric. Makes it so easy even a 12 year old can scoot a 400 lb pumpkin foward.
