On the stem of my pumpkin where it joins the main vine is a small split where the leaf used to be..it Is small and only on the surface but fear it may turn into a full blown split...I maneuvered the pumpkin to alleviate as much stress as possible and applied capstan to the crack...any advice?

Sounds like you did the right thing. As long as it stays dry, there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Have you cut the tap roots a couple feet or so in each direction to allow the vine to lift and not be anchored? Also prop the vine up with something to stem level. If you keep the stress to a minimum you should be good. Luke
