There is a relatively new product on the market that I found called FreezePruf by the Liquid Fence Company. It seems promising from the description. Anyone try it? http://www.liquidfence.com/FreezePruf.html

I found out about it reading science daily news

I might try it next spring for frost/freeze when fruit trees are in bloom.

I plan to try it in late september when we get some frost on the pumpkin. I have also heard of vegetable oil from some old gardening masters.

This product is suppose to be systemic. I bought some just in case some of my corn doesn't tassel by first frost.

I was waiting to see if anyone tried it on AG or other annuals befor replying. It is of interest because 9f would mean year round growing for me. Also, I lost a couple of expensive palms last year so was thinking of trying it on them.

As info, many Biennials/perennials have cold hardyness ratings. For example some Rhododendrons can only take -25 and some are good zub-zero. The dedicated hobyist will grow out of zone, thus, potecting these against cold is concern. The hobyist will apply thick winter mulch (ground warmth), windbreaks (helpr with wind chill and winburn), reduced fall watering (helps prevents stem spliting), icing (a layer of ice provides insolution and keeps evergreen plants from dehydrating), and the like to increase protection. But most annuals cant take any freeze or even frost -- that is the season ending event.

Now, the product says "depending on the variety of plant" and noted it doesn't mention annuals at all.

I did find this: "Freeze-Pruf combines five ingredients into a liquid spray to protect against cold damage in plants. The ingredients have a synergistic effect that exceeds the sum of what they would do individually. The ingredients include an antifreeze-like substance that is present in animals, another that helps to lower the freezing point of plant cells by dehydrating them, one that strengthens cell walls, another that helps the solution penetrate leaves, and one to resist washing away by rain and snow. The protection lasts about 4-6 weeks, and the best times to use it are the late fall and early spring.

I also found a message board saying it didn't help, but that is testimonials and thus not science. So I would say test it on plants in fall after they are done for the seeason to see the effects befor trying on spring plants! And please report back and inquiring minds want to know!
