Just wanna see whats everyone's sizes. Post the size and age. Its my first year growing them so I wanna see how fast these things grow or what I have to expect from mine. Also post if its a side vine or main vine fruit. Both mine are babies, and both on sides vines. I have two marrow plants and for some reason the fruits won't set unless they are on side vines. #1 is 9 days old and 15-1/4" long #2 is 6 days old and 14-1/4" long Both Joynson marrows I have a #3 that was open pollinated at 40+ ft out but its only about 3" long.
Post the #'s fella's! :)

I culled the marrow plant down to one fruit today! I cut a 40 pounder off (a.k.a. scar face) the main to keep a 5 day old set that is really long with a HUGE stem. Its all or nothing now!

basd on the marrow estimate cahrt I am at day 9, 279.5 OTT
http://egvga.webs.com/marrowestimatechart.htm
EE 21.5 , SS 13 est weight 4.74 lbs
The weight values below the first chart entry are entirely Estimated ongrowth curve, so not entirely accurate. but once the chart values are reached it is realitively good.

Won't let me open that file. Caleb how long is your main vine? I'm trying to determine weather I should cull one or not. I have two marrows about the same size at a sidevine at 15 and 17 ft and 10ft out the side vine they are one. Then all the way down I have a newer pollinated female on a side vine at the 41ft mark. Its like choosing what kid to keep. I may cull both #1 and #2 if the one at the 40' mark sets and starts taking off. Such hard decisions! :(

My main vine is 18' and dead headed. I still have secondaries growing which I will dead head at intervals to encourage fruit growth. I pruned my Marrow plant like an A.G. I am new at the Marrow, but I would suggest culling down to one fruit if it is size you are after. I would keep the little one as long as you know it is a set. That way it doesn't have to compete with the others for food and water. Also I would shade the fruit from the sun and get it up off the ground on some mill felt or styrofoam. Good Luck!

Just came from outside and found like 6 SVB grubs. Two of them was in the secondary on which the #1 marrow is growing so if that vine doesn't heal up good its going to need culled anyway. The SVB's were very tiny, only like a 1/4" long. I swear its one thing after another. LOL

Culling #1. #2 is further down the vine. I really hated to do it. :( Took a wedge outta the stem, I'll cut the rest tomorrow night. I am seriously sad cutting one off. LOL

206.5 Wursten and 73.6 Wursten, both day 8. The 206.5 is way bigger. Sizes are secret...lol (haven't measured)
By the way, length says little. Mine tend to be fat/thick and normal length. The winner will probably be the one that grows the longest time wise, not length wise.
Maxima, you have a great one going. Should go over 120 lbs.

Yeah I'm hoping this new one I have going has enough time. Its only 7" long but is on a secondary 40ft out. I'm getting a feeling the cold weather may come before I have a chance to really let it get big. I do have one at a secondary on the 16' mark on the main and as of last night its measurements were 17" long and 7.5" side to side. Not sure what that weighs(not much). Days 9 for this one. I'm just happy to have one growing well! LOL

Brad I have a question about how you keep your marrow on the vine. Do you cut the vine off after the marrow to prevent stem stress? Reason for asking is your recent pic looked like that. Been battling with my vine raising it up VERY carefully every two days. Wish mine was going to have the "alligator" looking skin like yours. My Joynson is getting huge and still has somewhat smooth skin. :(

Yes, I cut the main off after the marrow has definately set.
Stem stress is usually not an issue on marrows. I have kept the main on in the past and never had problems. Never heard of anybody who ever did. Now, you can get blossom end split and rib splits on marrows.

My biggie on the 206.5 went down too. Grew 18cm longer in one night and exploded.
I still have an open pollinated one on a secondary on that plant. Maybe that will slow it down.
