Does anyone know where all the big ones are this year?? I know that there are a few biggins in PA, Ohio, Iowa and futher out west. Do you think the WR will be broken this year?

Martin,
I think there could be some potential WR out there. Some of the growers diaries have some nice ones going. The weather here in central MN has been great for pumpkins IMO. Plenty of heat, but not too hot. Plenty of rain at nice intervals.

I Thought Shannon Doherty grew the 1880? lol.

This season has been plagued with aborts but plants are way ahead and for those lucky enough to get a big one going early they will have a great chance at a new wr.

Dont count out Ontario Martin. Some monsters in southern Ontario.

I think it's almost certain that we'll see more than one over 1700. From who, I'm not sure, but we would have to have a freeze in August to screw up all this progress.

Yes I think it will be broken and maybe by a big margin.

Just the thought alone of a 1700 pounder is insane. I've been lookin at a few of the growers diaries and there is some really nice lookin one with alot of hope! Can't wait to see all of the pics in Sept and Oct. Hope someone gets it up there! Good Luck to all.

I followed many diarys last year. One of which was the harp diary.
I had no clue they were even in contention for a wr.
I predict, like last year it will be someone nobody expected.

You ever wonder if all European growers are having bad season or are they all just sandbagging? And Im not talking only about pumpkins (but about pkns too)... since there are other giant veggies too... ;)

Pickeringchris Im not counting anybody out. As a matter of fact I think that there could be a WR coming out of Canada this year :-) This year now that my garden has died (again) from yellow vine disease I'm trying to keep up with all the diary intries and gossip lol. There seems to be so many big pumpkins growing everywhere that it may be alot or even better than what we watched happen in 2007.

Last year at this time if I'm correct Christy Harps 1725 was at around 400 and I have seen numerous pumpkins in the 650-950 pound range. Its going to be fun to keep up with them all. RI has been quiet so far..... Pap is there any biggins in the Wallace patch?

Martin

P.S I wish Don Young would update us with a pic of his 1068 Wallace pumpkin... Last time I checked there was a biggin at day 15 and it was already huge.

Martin G what is up with the yellow disease this year? I know of about 4 people who got it this year. What do you think we should do so it does not reappear.

Nic, I will be doing a rotation of Talstar and Bifen next year. Will talk more about it on your new topic post above.

Would be more surprized w/ a new AG record, than a new Melon record!!! Don't get me wrong, I wish the best for all & maybe the extreme heat will convert a northern climate into a 2K#er!!! I would love to see it happen. (btw, I rootin for shazzy & his dome)!!! LOL But melons are hot weather growers!!! Hopin to see the first 300# melon, and hopefully from a faithful (southern) member here on BP.com!!! Grow em BIG!!! Peace, Wayne

okay, so now... who wants to throw some names out there of people who have monsters growing? Especially the ones with diaries! What are the must see diaries? I know a few names with monsters but they have requested to remain in the weeds.

As we drove through Des Moines last Friday, we could hear a giant sucking sound. I think it was Don Young's pumpkins sucking up water and nutrients. If he gets his pumpkins much bigger, he is going to need an oversize load permit just to haul them to the weighoff.
