Think you need to say what kind of pumpkin you are talking and if its AG then the cross. Some AG are know to throw green and if open then it could have crossed with anything and I would say dark green means it is a squash or a field pumpkin. Bottom line is more info would be needed to tell you anything.

Yes it was an AG I'm sure he left it open for open pollination. He does have squash in his garden.

That squash would not affect the color of this years fruit, only the offspring of the seeds.

I too have a dark green AG. Bought generic seed from catalog. I self pollinated with another generic AG. So will it stay this color?

I never have seen a green AG, but Jackos start out deep green and go orange.

I am not sure what I have. It is however 33 inch circumfurance on day 11 post pollination.

I was refering to what you crossed it with last year -- that is what will determine the seeds you gave him this year. As Linus points out, him growing a squash this year will have no effect on this years fruit; however, being "OPEN" and with squash or other curbits in vicinity means it will likely cross with them and thus no telling what he'll have for seed. That is why all the growers here perform controlled polinations - so we know the parentage of the seeds and control the genes! My question was how did you cross it last year? That will tell you what the seeds are.

If you have "green" AG it is a squash.

http://www.bigpumpkins.com/ViewArticle.asp?id=51 According to this article green is a recessive gene that will produce a green pumpkin if both parents have this trait.
