I mentioned this in a early post but was wondering what you guys thought and if this has ever happened to one of your plants before,,,which I think is a stroke of great luck for this to happen, now I just need a little stroke of luck with the pumpkin it has growing that it doesn't blow with all them roots feeding it,,,LOL!!
I have a 1450 Wallace plant growing with the biggest vines I have ever had since I been growing, just the secondaries on that plant are bigger then any other plants 'main' vines I have ever grown, so you can imagine what the main looks like on that 1450 plant of mine,,,and they are not even close to being done growing even bigger(thicker) as the season progress's as the fruit grows.
Im pretty sure why these vines are growing so massive and thick,, and thats because at each leaf node on my main vine and secondaries, instead of the plant growing one root at the bottom and one root at the top of each leaf node it has been growing double that at each node. Instead my 1450 has been growing at each leaf node a total 4 tap roots (2 roots at bottom of vine and 2 at top of vine at each leaf).
I personally have never seen anything like it before. I have seen a plant do this on occasion here and there, but not at about 90% of every leaf node like this one has.
I just wonder how often this happens on a plant that we have never heard about that ends up growing them 1500 lb plus monsters? Has it happened for any of you guys/gals?
Its the first time I have seen one do this for me personally before or even heard about a grower having a plant that has done this , which I'm sure it probably has?

brooks my 1450 i noticed does not have what you described but upon removing a few roll over vine endings from a recent storm i notice under each leaf stem was a baseball sized cluster of roots. a good sign for sure.
ill need it to because due to a showing by mr. foamy i may end up with only four sets of sides before the fruit. so far since drilling the base and later doing the surgery and partial amputation of the main about 6 ft from the base the fruit has continued to grow at a very respectable daily gain. who knows if it will last? time will tell.
i feel like im in a rocky movie " whats holding him up" lol

Hey Brooks.I have exacly what your talking about on my 850(664liggettx1287)this year.If you check out my 09 diary i posted a pic of the rooting system on the 664 on july5/09.4 roots protruding from the top node. The plant is massive.I won"t be too quick to pour on the potash this year.Slow and steady with this brute and if the wind gives me a break this year i have a feeling she's gonna put out a beauty.Carl

I just emailed pap a while back about this. My 1596 has 3 tap roots, 2 off the bottom on each side of the vine and 1 on top. I removed a side vine and found this. It doesn't happen on every leaf node but but it's quite a few. Bob

Im new to this but I really enjoy reading these discussions anyone think that due to the selective breeding that the plants may be beginning to evolve to support the type of fruit being grown on them or just a genetic characteristic being passed on due to this type of breeding. just a thought Todd

What's the pumpkin's growing rate Brooks? I'm dying to know, with all that juice it has to be scaring the hell out of you.

I seen that on some of mine, roots on top, I thought the vine was upside down.

It's happening at quite a few nodes on mine as well, I wonder if all the rain we have been getting has anything to do with it.

I have this on every node on my marrows. Noticed a few places there were actually 5 taproots coming out of the vine. Maybe thats why it grew to a total of 51ft LOL Only a measly 40ft now from something chewing on the vine and causing an infection which led to rot so I had to cut off 10ft :( Hoping all these roots will feed me a giant sized marrow since I have been getting fruit sets left and right now!

Pap, sure wish we could get a handle on these Foamers but I think for the most part they are in natures hands and out of our hands no matter what we try to do. I tried a few diffrent things and still, same old thing, Mr Foamy shows up yesterday hiding inside my 710 Bosworth stump.
None of the vines was even burried yet on that plant, and was wating to bury the tops of the vines after day 30 for something new so right now just the tap roots coming out of the bottom of that entire plant vines with the first 3 secondaries already cut off when the plant was younger. ( experiment on trying to stop all that massive water back feeding to the stump and vine at one time,, still didnt work ).
Cont this thread when i get home from work,, Im late!!,, and gotta run,, still got a lot more to add!,,,lol

My plants are shooting 2 out at the bottom at some junctions. Not the tops though. 700 Rondonis, 985 Werner, 1421 Stelts and 1130 Jutras!
