When do you put out the rat/mouse poison. I'd hate to lose a pumpkin to mouse. Anyone got any suggestions. The rain can wash the boxes away.

Build a woodpile away from your patch and throw down some dogfood. You can never get all of them, but you can try to entice them to somewhere better away from the patch. In the fall when they've turned it into a hostel, splash on the gas and light her up!

d con. i pack per pumpkin. put it in an old plastic gallon milk jug and place near pumpkin. this stops bigger critters like a neighborhood cat from getting in it or birds. a mouse can fit through hole no problem and eat up.

Rodents should be controlled year round. They'll seek shelter in your outbuildings through the winter, and be ready to eat in the spring. I put Rodex in a waterproof container out with my seedlings and refresh throughout the season.
