I would never disagree with anything Don says, whatever he says or does is pumpkin gospel in my book! That being said, I grew 3 fruit on Don's 1026 Young last year, and the first fruit pollinated was on a side vine and continued regular growth all season, ending up twice as big as the others on the main and another sidevine. I'm not contradicting what Don said, just a testament how powerful his seeds are, and why all of my plants this year are either from his seeds, or genetics - ie. my 628 (the sidevine fruit I'm talking about) that is 2 of his seeds crossed, and the best fruit in my patch so far. My advice - Get you some Young seeds for next year!

To Don Young I'm a newbie this year and I would appreciate a seed or two from you for next season.

Ron, I just checked out your 2009 diary and that is wild. I wonder how big it would have been if you kept just one? As a first timer, I am growing 2 pkns on my only plant (to be safe) so you give me hope for some big guys. I am using an AG seed I bought at Lowes this year so I will definitely be looking to buy some premiums next year.
