I have a 5 day old pumpkin, seems to be doing pretty good,, there ias a leaf growing right by where the stem connects to the vine, do I cull this leaf or let it go??

Thanks Tucker

If its rubbing against the pumpkin I would cut it.

I cull all the leaves and vines near the pumpkin. It gives easy access and allows the fruit to breath.

I'd cut the leaf -- I didn't on mine earlier in the year and this was the result ( http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc189/JDFanning_bucket/scar.jpg ) -- the little scratches the leaf make on the baby pumpkin turn into pretty big ugly scars as he grows - the circled portion is from the branch of the leaf that I did not cut in time to keep the baby from getting scratches - so if you want a nice looking pumkin remove anything that might scratch him !!

Hang in there your fine. After cutting them put some antifungal spray or powder on them. You'll be fine.

At my mentor's suggestion, I spray every wound/cut with 6% peroxide and use an acid brush and dust captan on it. This will kill bacteria and fungus.
