You've gotta read this whole post to understand what I'm tallking about.

Hmmmm, I think Ron's 80 Rahe and 66 Rahe are the perfect examples for this.

Ok, lets say I decide to plant the 80 Rahe and 66 Rahe in 2011. The pumpkins where both grown on the exact same plant, Brooks weird 183 Bosworth. Both pumpkins where crossed with the exact same plant, the 1018 Van Hook. Therefore they've got the exact same family tree.

80 Rahe 08 est (183 Bosworth x 1018 VanHook)
66 Rahe 08 est. (183 Bosworth x 1018 VanHook)

When pollination time comes, I decide to cross the 80 Rahe with the 66 Rahe. Like a brother X sister cross. The pumpkin takes.

When the pumpkin is done growing I harvest the seeds. Now here's what the real question is, what exactly would would the offspring look like?

Both pumpkins had oddly large blossom ends, therefore I'd expect that to become a perminate trait. I'd also expect the 1018 Van hook genetics to stand out and the offspring to be larger then their parents. Though since it's basicly a brother X sister cross I'd expect it to be UGLY.

What do you think? Has something like this ever been done before?

498 Vankooten, 1173 Koch, and 1250 Ellsworth all fit your example of "brother x sister" pattern.

Not sure what your offsping would look like, but I did 498 x 1173 here last year, will find out soon how those offspring do.

The huge blossom end trait is probably recessive because a few people tried the 183 Bosworth and I was the only one with the huge blossom ends. It would be cool if it grew them consistantly. As for the 80 and 66 crosses I would expect even more size potential because the 183 was grown to over 700lbs with awesome orange color but it had thin walls. As for color and shape i would call it a surprise pakage lol, no telling what it will do with Cinderella in its lineage.

No one ever crossed the 1016 and 1230 Daletas that im aware of. That would be an interesting cross.

Interesting why the 183 grew the 740 Stevens EST, yet most of the offspring I found tend to be in the 50-200lb range. Love the shape on the 80 rahe, got a good laugh when I first saw it!

Though if you cross 2 pumpkins grown from the same plant, like the 80 Rahe and 66 Rahe, would it have some strange effect on the offspring?

Oh, Ron, I'm really wondering how your plants are doing! Because I said to myself "I'm growing whatever comes off of Ron's 222 Rahe and 65 Rahe in 2011!" Hope there's something big'n orange!

JA Im growing my 222 Rahe but unfortunatly it has foaming stump. The sets are perfectly round. Hoping to get one to maturity, should be a looker. Right now the plant is still looking pretty good.
My 65 is doing well. Got a long barrel shaped set at 18 ft pollinated on july 8th with a giant plant behind it. Its a marathon but im off to a good start. Crossed it with 1378 Glasier.
Pirate, I have seeds from the 853 shoot me an email.
Was going to go with the 853 this year but the 65 seedling looked so much better I went with it. So many seeds so little space lol.

JA, not sure about yer original post, which included the statement "brother X sister cross"...not sure if this is possible? as seeds come from sisters only? 80 & 66 Rahe's are both daughters, so if you crossed em, both having the same "Twisted Father" (1018 VanHook) it would be "Twisted Sisters!!! LOL Hopefully they will grow "Slungers" Peace, Wayne
