"Whats on YOUR pallet?" Ok I sound like that credit card commercial haha but seriously what do you put on the pallet before you set your pumpkin on it?

One inche pink foam insulation board. But don't use just any type of adhesive to glue it. Some adhesives or glues will actually eat or melt the foam. Use PL300 Foamboard Adhesive. It makes a nice bond between the foamboard and the wood of the pallet. Most hardware stores will carry it.

4 inches of foam rubber, covered with blue tarp. This provides a nice "nest" for the 'kin and prevents too much rocking during travel. Blue tarp wipes off real easy. BTW, I screw the pallet to the floor of the trailer for travel. No more sliding pallets.

Strap the puppy down...several years ago, I saw pics of a completely crushed pk'up cab...caused by a sudden stop, and pkn sliding forward...lucky the driver wasn't crushed!!! I have seen massive pkns on a pallet, w/ just a piece of cheap thin carpet on top of the pallet. The important part, is if you are travelling w/ it, do something to secure it so it can't crush you in case of a sudden stop!!! Peace, Wayne

Pick the best looking pallet you can find, sturdy and solid, deck it with 1" plywood and go happy with the deck screws but be careful not to obstruct where the forklift tines have to go. All four sides... and get those screw heads flush or even indented a tad.
Then if you can get it, 3-4 inches of old mattress or upolstery foam, aka 'gut that curbcouch' or styrofoam. On top of that a sacrificial blanket or tarp, and get more foam or 3-4 old rummage sale afghans to put on top of fruit before tarping.

dont make the mistake a lot of us have made in the past by using so much padding that the crew trying ti rig your pumpkin for the scale has a hard tine getting the rope around the bottom of the fruit.( we all tend to over compensate for our first pumpkin journey)
over the years i have used whatever is available, foam cushions-tarps lined with hay-a couple bed quilts folded up over the pallet, anything to cushion the bottom will do.
be sure to place a bail of hay in between pumpkin and cab of truck so the pumpkin can not slide forward if you have to stop in a hurry.

Pap is right, but a bale of straw in front of the pallet, I rolled one off and dented the front of the truck bed a few years ago when someone ran a stop sign in front of me. It was kind of ironic, I was returning and 4 blocks from home. Makes one heck of a thump, LOL!!!
