Im having problems using Chat. I can use and read the message boards but when I go into Chat, the whole computer freezes up. Can anyone help me fix this??

I have Windows xp, use Netscape for my ISP (dial up) IE version 7. I downloaded the new IE 8 but it messed things up, so I went back to IE 7. I use AVG for Virus, Malwarebytes and just downloaded Sybots Search and Destroy. NOthing is ever found by these programs.

HELP Me Please.

It may be a program version issue. Make sure you have the latest version of Java and/or directX/active X.
Have you been able to use chat before and now can't?

Also, I doubt that a virus or malware is causing the problem.

Maybe try Mozilla Firefox or even Google Chrome.

Try downloading something called CCleaner(CrapCleaner). It will clean out temporary internet files, cookies, etc and check for registry errors.

I don't think you need both spybot and malwarebytes, I'd drop spybot. How many programs do you have running at start-up? It simply may be too much for your machine to handle if you have too many programs running at once.

right click on the explorer bar and lanuch taskmanager. First look at processes tab to see if anythng is eating CPU (also that you don't have a bunce if iexplorer running). Click on CPU (to sort on CPU) until system idle process is at the top then bring up chat and see what happens. Assuming you are not fully locked, you can end the iexplorer and subsugent dump processes from there. Next click on performance and do the same thing and then networking to see what is happening. That would give you a start.

Mizz Bend, have had these similar prblms in the past...when I had dial up!! Normal solution for the prblm, was to delete cookies!!! Hope this helps!!! Peace, Wayne
PS...Andy, is malwarebytes a free system, and better than spybot?

Thanks everyone. I have deleted all temp files, cookies and everything I could. I might have too many processess running. I'll try getting rid of some programs Idont need. Thanks again.

I was able to use Chat until Monday..I can use it, as soon as I enter my message, it freezes up and I cant hardly exit BP, I eventually can, but its a pain.

I havent added any new programs during this time.

Wayne, Tom P. suggested malwarebytes back on June 20, I tried it and IMO it's better and faster than spybot search and destroy, and it's free.

I was told today, to make sure you update malwarebytes weekly, it doesnt doit on it own.
