I think I must have used to much fish and kelp last night.
My main vine shot up to the sky. I could not believe how high it was. This was at about 3 AM. I had just gotten home from the emergency room with some stitches in my hand. I had an accident with a utility knife while trimming the vinyl siding, to make room for a new light fixture, on my house. Blood everywhere. My hand will be out of service for at least 10 days till the stitches come out.
I was in no mood to attend to the skyward bound main last night, but in retrospect, I should have done something to prevent it from making a crash landing and forming a split. This split is about 24feet out.

Any way, message to Billium, Don't give up. Even with 7 past years of failure, no pumpkin set yet this year, A fresh split just a few inches past my most promising flower, and now one hand, I intend to keep trying. I will not ever give up.

PS: other than the cut there was no damage to my hand. after the cut heals, in about 10 days, my hand will be fine.

when splits are lineir theres no problem. the split could also be a result of wind as your not staked down, are you?

It could have been wind. Vine had grown past the staked down area. I should have re-staked that night.

It is a linear split. I hope it heals up. Funny thing is it looks just like the cut on my hand. Pretty much my plant got hurt the same time I did. How weird is that?

I'll just try for next year and plan on what I'm growing next. I don't forsee anything growing on these marrows.
The plant is growing like crazy with nothing to show for it. I'll continue to maintain it of course but I will not be hand pollinating anything else on it or trimming vines. Just going to let it grow out. Gee maybe I can set a new world record for longest vine. haha
