Vine has grown out and is about 5" dia. very hollow and starting to split, any ideas?

5 inches diameter in the vine! Sounds like you got an anaconda hiding in your patch. Or do you mean pumpkin stem? Keep stem splits dry, clean with bleach, and apply a fungicide. Cross your fingers.

lol. thanks, Had a look at it today and it seams to have narrowed down, and shot out into more vines? Just see what happens.
