The number of lobes represents the number of seed cavities in the pumpkin. We like to think more seed cavities results in a larger fruit.

There is absolutely no evidence that supports the number of lobes translating into greater weight. The two biggest pumpkins in history and 5 of the top 10 heaviest were all 4 lobes.

Just be sure to get a complete pollination of all lobes, we like to slather them with as much boy batter as possible, the female will only take as much as she needs, but if it is to little then you will get a deformed pumpkin.
