Is this going to cause me a problem. I am a pumpkin novice - this is my first attempt. Currently my pumpkin is 40 inches circumference and this is increasing steadily by about 2.5 inches/day. The pumpkin is now over the stem and it is not easy to move. I have fairly light soil. Am I going to get promlems as it continues to grow and if so is there an easy remedy. For example, could I tunnel under it and will the stem grow to accommodate the pumpkin or will it snap? I will be grateful for any advice - Thanks, Mike.

main stem or main vine?
if the fruit is growing on top of the main vine id cut the main vine off the plant at the pumpkin and let some of the sides before the fruit grow out and around the fruit,AKA SPIDER )or pick a different pumpkin.
if your saying the fruit is growing forward toward the stem and/or is growing on the stem? that will not harm the pumpkin just grows with its blossom up in the air. and makes for an ugly fruit.if it were me id either pick another fruit on the plant or grade the soil in a manner that will cause the fruit to rock back in a more normal position as she grows.you could also prop the shoulders up early on with some styrofoam during this process. it can be done . just cut some tap roots on main and sides before the fruit.i would also consider terminating the main at the fruit as well.

Thanks for the advice, Pap - I will follow your advice and grade the soil, cut a few roots and gradually ease it over - Cheers
