I'm torn on what to do. I'm going to cross one of my black beauty zucchini's with a giant marrow for the sole purposes of how healthy and disease resistant it is, the plant is always crazy huge. My question is to everyone is what do they think would be the best "mommy"? A fruit on the marrow or a fruit from the zucchini? Or doesnt it really matter? If I pick the zucchini would it be a bush type next year/marrow vining, or being a cross between a bush and vining plant I would have to wait and see?

One vines the other is a bush. Marrows are hollow, zucchinis are solid. Not sure what you want your end result to be.

My 23" black beauty last year was hollow. Weighed about 15 lbs. I was asking the pro's opinions on what plant I should use to be the seed giver? I'm quite aware one is bush and one is vining. lol
I want the genetics of the zucchini into the marrow due to my black beauty's almost being "bulletproof" every season. This is only an experiment. Both are curcabita pepo so next years fruits shouldn't be freaks or anything. Would I be better off saving seeds from the cross out of the marrow for keeping it "giant"? I'm somewhat new to cross breeding. I'm trying to learn. :)

Bill, do it both ways!!! Plant both next year and evaluate results!!! Repeat as needed to get results you want!? Takes a lil longer, but you will get the results you are looking for eventually!!!! Grow em BIG!!! Peace, Wayne
