Sorry if this has been asked before, but I am a complete newbie to large pumpkins this year. I have an atlantic giant that I pollinated on 1 of the 2 main vines around 10 days ago. I also would like to have one more pumpkin on the other main vine. I have not been able to get a pumpkin to set on the other vine yet, but I did get a 2nd one to set about 6 feet down on the same vine as the 10 day old pumpkin. Are the 2 pumpkins too close to each other and to have some decent size (300+lbs) should I pull the 2nd set female and wait till I get one on the other main vine? Thanks in advance,

Luke

Luke, first things first. You should only have ONE main vine. And it should be growing upwards of a foot a day, there are some plants that have two main, however its not something we want, so. Take a picture of your plant and post it.

Oh boy, this is my 2nd year growing pumpkins and my first year attempting something big. The best I can explain it is about a foot off from where the main stem comes out of the ground the pumpkin formed a "U" with 2 vines that run parallel. Both are roughly 25 feet long. One has 2 set females, and one does not.

Is there a direct way to post pics into this thread? I have pics on photobucket?

I actually have 3 mains on my giant marrow but I only chose one as the sole actual main to grow the fruits. I let the other two get about 12' and buried the ends so they grow no longer. Now there is twice as much side vines/secondaries feeding the 30' main and the fruit on it. I could be wrong for doing this but it seemed a decent idea for more energy towards the fruit. Anyone more experienced wanna chime in on keeping more than one main but only letting one keep growing? Luke go to grower diaries and make your own diary so you can post pregress and/or pics. You can unpload pics right from your computer to your diary on this site.

Thanks Billium. I have been measuring daily. When referring to circumference, do they mean horizontally (parallel with ground) or vertically? It's the 11th day after pollination and the measurement are 34" and 22.5" respectively. It's a long pumpkin, but very fun to track for a newbie. My original goal was just 100 pounds.

Luke, always measure circumference parallel to the ground. Once it gets a little bigger it would be impossible to measure it "vertically".
