You should shade it as soon as possible because sun damage during early growth can be the most damaging. Same reason you would put sunscreen on your kids.

Cover them asap. I start to cover them right after pollination. I know a lot of this may seem mundane and way to much but doing these things will bring more growth and protect the fruit.

We have been experiencing some cool nights and cool days, would you let the small pumpkin have some sun to warm up just like you would do when it gets cool in the fall?

I have several pumpkin plants and the leaves are turning yellow. Its starting at the base of the plant and going down the vine. The leaves are turning yelow rapidly. Could this problem be an iron defiency???? Im sure that its not a pest problem. Im also seeing yellowing of the leaves in my cucumbers and watermelon. Im not sure what this is. Does anyone have any idea what im dealing with?
