If I put a male flower in the refrigerator will keep it from opening for a while? Because I plan to pollinate a female flower in two days but the male flower I want to cross the pumpkin with will be ready tomorrow.

It should slow the opening down a bit and even if it opens the pollen should remain viable for a couple days if you keep it in the fridge (I'd get a few extra flowers if possible so that you ensure you have a good supply.)

Nic, I've pre-picked male flowers and put them in the fridge in the past and it works just fine as long as you let them warm up before use.

Make sure that you take them out of the fridge and let them warm/dry up before use because the fridge is a cold and moist environment that could effect the pollen.

Great pollination weather. I got my computer back up & running so if you do ever come up flowerless just e-mail me. I'm not working & you can't live too far from me so I'll deliver'em if needed.

Well I only have one plant this year. So I am hoping not to need too many flowers. LOL That wouldn't be good. I know it is likely I could end up with nothing this year. Very risky since I always lose one.

Anyone know if flower/pollen will be viable after shipping them overnight? I have a female probably opening Saturday morning and no males close to ready. I'd pay for shipping if someone was willing to send a flower to me but I don't know if it would work unrefrigerated.
