How many secondaries do you have before your selected pumpkin? Also how much do you think the main and secondary growth after the pumpkin set contributes to the pumpkins growth ?

Orange, the NUMBER is not as important as the length. The pumpkin is fead by the plant BEHIND the plant. So if you set a fruit 3 feet out, then only three feet of the plant will feed the fruit. Set your pumpkins at least 10 feet out and the fruit should have enought to grow.

Try to have 12 secondaries before fruit set. 6 each side. The whole plant contributes to fruit growth. Just try to get the pumpkin set in the middle of the plant. If the pumpkin wants to grow the plant will send its growth juices from each end of the plant. But if your worried about growth before the pumpkin then wrap the secondaries around. Remember the biggst pumpkin grown was 9ft out on a regular vine pattern.

Good Point Trailor......The biggest pumpkin grown was only 9.5' out. Of course grown on the #1 Genetic Seed also, but still not as far out as most would like to pollinate at. Shows you anything is possible.

Trailor, the 1725 was grown in a regular pattern with the exception that the 3rd stage vines were grown off of the first two side vines which allowed another 5 or 8ft behind the pumpkin
