This plant produces amazing roots so fast they are shooting out before you can even bury the vines. I have never seen a plant root so well as this one. If there is a genetic trait to go after in a seed, I wonder if this is it.

Anyone else seeing this with the 1161 or other seeds?

my 1161 is doing very well as is my other three plants.i crossed both 1161 pollinations with my 1450 wallace.
weather and soil have played a big roll so far this year. we have been enjoying july/august weather in late may and most of june so far. ( the flip side of this weather coin is we have also had more leaf burn then in any previous years)
i have noted some very agressive roots this year. more so even than past seasons. im sure the weather played a big roll.
my 1161 is a nice egg shaped and i was very pleased with that. a lot of young 1161 pumpkins i have seen are round but i like a bit of an oblong shape. full in the shoulders and tapered to the blossom.time will tell.curious also if the keeper 1161 will get the trademark sunk in across the blossom dimple? best of luck.

Pete,

I am also growing the 1161 Rodonis. It is been an amazing plant so far just like you and Pap said with roots growing everywhere with big healthy leafs and thick green vines. I have been crossing the 1421.5 Stelts in the 1161 and I have one pumpkin that I think I am going to keep at around 14-16'.

Pete,
I'm also growing the 1161 and it is a very nice plant..it is in a x-mas pattern in the same hole (Back to Back) with a 1596 Wallace that is the biggest of my plants.
I have crossed the 1161 with the 1596 and the 1068 Wallace and will pick the best grower of the 2. The bad news is we had a heat wave the other day and my MVs got burned up...so I'll need one of these 2 sets on the 1161.

Anyways, yes the 1161 is a good grower and rooter but the 1596 Wallace is my biggest by far and it's MV keeps on a growing!

Same experience with my 1161. Great root system even 10 feet out from the stump. A thick canopy of leaves that doesn't seem to mind the heat at all. My first pollination at 9' however has been a slow grower so far. I didn't plan on keeping this one although and my second pollination at about 13' will be Monday so hopefully it is a better grower.

Thanks Bill for this seed!
