How did every one fair through the HUGE storms yesterday??,, Looks like IA ,WIS IL,and all the states past them received a real hammering, I know my patch received some.
I faired OK with a few broken leaves, besides it making my patch into a small swamp , but my worst hit plant looked to have been my 1725 Harp right after them storms with really strong winds. But I went out this morning to access the damage further and was surprised how these plants bounced back with out even touching them, espically my 1725 Harp plant.
Its kinda weird how these plants do this isn't it?,,how you can look at a mangled plant right after huge storm went trough thinking there is no way it can survive or even have a chance of growing a huge pumpkin,,, but then 10 to 24 hrs later these plants look like almost nothing even happen to them.
But just wondering how you guys faired through the two bad storms yesterday and if your damage was a bad, or as bad I thought mine was going to be?
I have found out over the years not to dive right into your patch and try to start fixing things right after a storm cause they will bounce back, wait till the patch dries out a bit before you walk all over things making it worse then it already is, espically chancing stirring up the soil causing disease.
What do you guys think?

Hey Brooks, no big storms here yesterday in Northeast Pa. but we felt the vibrations from the Canadian earthquake. Our local EMS building was condemned last night due to exterior cracks in the walls. I thought it was Rocky letting off a little gas build up but I heard on the national news about the quake.

We got mostly a lot of rain here. No hail or real damage.. The storms really follow I-80 and then pound the Joliet area. Hail was forecasted there.

The worst thing that happened here was almost getting struck by lightning while taking the laundry down in the pouring rain (we got 1 inch) and then falling down the deck steps because it was so scary and wet outside. LOL. Plants were fine (thank goodness!!!).

high winds and 2" of heavy rain is what we received, it sure was humid before it hit... plants are fine, but slow going thanks to a critter(groundhog) who munched my main vine on my best plant.. Have also been heavily hit with Cuke beetles starting apx.2 wks ago, but all is good :D

wow!, I know some growers had to get hammered?,, you guys are lucky it missed you, that storm front looked to be almost two states wide at some points of the radar I was looking at,,, I first started following it on line coming from IA untill it hit us here in Ohio.
Here the weather ( when it storms) seem to always follow 1-70, and its weird how when a storm will come into St Clairsville how it will stay mostly on one side (south side) of interstate 70 or the other side of it (north). (And im talking only half miles here, or less) I live only about a 1 mile from I-70 and pray when I see a storm coming in that its in on the north side of 1-70 instead of the south side.
I dont know how many times I have seen when traveling over the interstate 70 it will be storming like heck ,hailing, rain etc,, on one side and not the other. Must be some kind of wind current going through that particular area all the time, but it sure is weird how a storm always seems to hit alot harder in one part of St.Clairsville then it does on the other half of it.

We just got an hour of intense lightning and heavy rain. No severe damage. But after last year's flash flood and the saturated soil coonditions now I get real nervous every time they predict heavy rain. The storms last Friday were worse. 2 big rounds of 60 mph winds. Luckily I only had very minor leaf damage. But in the city of Anamosa there was a lot of tree damage and power outage.

Not much here just a buttload of rain. Crazy winds in Dalton where I work. Everything is ok, except for the battle of cucumber beetles and downy mildew. lol

Big storms rolled in here, they were calling for 70 mph winds and hail.....lovely...lol...thank God it didn't happen, we've had tornado warnings twice so far..lol WTF! We did however get 48 mph winds, but no hail and a nice downpour to cool the plants. Plants are a few weeks ahead thanks to the weather, this seems to be a common thing this season on the east coast. All things considered...its a decent season, we have to remember, every season there are going to be different challanges, and disasters, the important part is adapting to all this nonsense, that is makes or breaks the season.

Your exactly right Tom, I always expect at least one major set back during my growing season, it's not that it's going to happen, but when its going to happen and how bad its going to be?,,Ha! ha!

nice to get my power back late last night and this is my first posting since the storm. wicked, wicked, wicked storm here. lost a big branch that fell right on top of the stacked fire wood. best place for it to fall. lol. ran to the basement with the dog as i heard the high pitch whistle of the wind as it approached and then heard what sounded like gunfire. it was trees snapping and electrical line snapping in sequence with the wind. it was pretty cool actually. i was staking my last secondary down with bamboo when it hit. green yellow purple and black were colors in the sky. rotation everywhere. small white clouds circling every which direction. 2 to 3 inches of rain. and the beauty...only 7 folded leaves. they were on the perimeter of the patch as all the inside leaves had each other to lean on. and they were all on only one plant. i had some secondaries stacked tight in that area, so i retrained one through the gap and moved the other ones over a bit. no more gap. i spent the first night without power in a motel 6. for 40 bucks i had a good night sleep in air condition and the tv to see the storm coverage. work is so crazy right now i paid good money for much needed sleep in the cool a/c. hope everyone else faired as well as i did that got hit hard.

70-80 mph winds 2.5 inches of rain in 30 mins was wicked and do not have any clue how the plants survived this one. Main vine rolled at the tip cant seem to get it right again but ohhhh well. at least got a poll on main . some broken leaves, plants look decent though, got little shitters. tore some more shingles roof off which is fine with me new steel roof going on anyhow. Maters are whooped bad but at least family and ag's are ok and no hail thank god i didnt tarp the plants thank god the corn is up. shazzy you need to do something about that fence HaHa
