If you have been following my diary, I am sure your aware of my situation here.
So far, I have pollinated 1 female on each plant. 2nd pollinations (main vine) on each plant should be within the next week here.
After the first pollinated females, I have no sides vines growing off the mains (basically snake plants after first females), so is distance from the stump really important in my case come culling decision time ?

More importantly than distance out is how long can you grow those secondaries between the stump and the fruit? Train them out and around the developing pumpkin to fill in the entire patch. sq ft of plant between the stump and the pumpkin is far more important!

Distance takes second place to how each pumpkin is growing. Is the closer one growing faster or the further one? How about stem angle to the vine? Which is sitting better?

Jeremy, sorta thinkin I have seen drawings of a vine pattern that was called "Spider" train a few secondaries forward, to fill in the space in front of yer grower, to fill in for the lack of secondaries past yer "grower"!!! Peace, Wayne
