I'm not growing pumpkins but I am growing giant marrows this year and I have a question. My 1st main vine that came off the plant is probably a good 20' and growing probably 4-6" a day. Been burying the vine/vines of course. Off the beginning I was getting fruits probably 2' or so off the stump so I plucked em off awaiting for a fruit longer down the line. Well a couple weeks later and feet longer and no fruits on that vine. Vine keeps growing just no females yet. I have two more other large vines coming off the stump that are half the size(probably 4-5' or so) that have fruits. Question is...can the vine be too long for large fruits or the longer the vine the better? The vine itself is about 1-1/2" thick and healthy. Should I wait for a fruit or bury it soon and wait for one off the other vines? Sorry for all these questions, I'm somewhat new to large vining plants.

It is not the longer the vine the better, but you can easily set a marrow out at 20 feet. My largest one to date was at about 17 ft. I know some growers that bend the main back to the stump and then set one, so I am sure that is longer than 20 feet.
I've never had good experiences with side vine marrows. The best I have had with a side vine is 75 lbs.
