Our own Gadberry 909; she is crankin compared to past seasons, however we know that there is a looong way to go the weigh-offs! Have our 1st female in the "merry-time" whorle at 11'!

Hey Brooks, that 998 is a hardy plant and grows well as I'd grown the 998 in 2007. It also just keeps putting on the lbs. right up to harvest. The fruit are usually high and wide rather than long but very thick (heavy). My best plant this year is the 985 Werner, growing like a giant weed, unblemished. Will have a female to pollinate early it looks like. The 1385 Jutras seems more compact but not far behind the 985 and also has a small female on it about 13' out. Good luck all!

Hi Don! Long time no speak, hope things are going well for you. My 1385 is right behind my 998 plant by a few feet, its just not throwing out the secondaries and main vine like the 998 is, and I think why that might be is because instead my 1385's main and secondaries are growing super BIG and massive.
Ive never had a plant start out growing vines this massive before like that 1385 is growing, and I can see why this 1385 seed has grown so many huge pumpkins and a world record 1725 Harp pumpkin only 9 ft away from the stump. With the massive vines the 1385 puts out so early, I cant wait to see what they look like once a pumpkin gets going and the plant matures. Its definitely going to have a massive stump later on, I can see that starting now.

1355 Bhaskaran and 1237 Horton are growing the fastest with largest leaves. 547 McWilliams was doing great, but the groundhog chewed some leaves and took off the end of the main. The short in the electric fence that let the critter in is repaired. The plants would have been farther ahead if we didn;t get that cold snap in mid May and all the cloudy days in June.

Mine would be the 851 Fowler - It's taken over the entire space that I had for it and doesn't seem to be slowing yet (even in these 100+ temps we've had the last 2 weeks straight)- the 763 Young is coming along nicely also but it was planted about 3 weeks after the 851 so has some catching up to do. The 421 Drum was doing pretty well until the last few wind storms blew through and decided to pick the main vine up (bamboo stakes and all !) and twist it around (got a nice 3-4" split down the center of the main - so now just hoping to get something growing on one of the side vines to get some of the orange genetics out of it for next year.)

They are both neck and neck and growing like crazy.
These plants are BEASTS! 1108.5 Miller at week 8 has a main vine is over 22 ft. Longest sides have been terminated at 13 ft. Pumpkin pollinated at 13 pollinating one tommorrow at 15.5. Have one at 19 that will be ready about Wed or Thurs next week. Liggett is a little behind in vine size, but making up for it in setting pumpkins faster and bigger. It has a just over 21 feet main, longest sides have been terminated at 13 ft. has a Pumpkin pollinated at 12.5, and 15. One will be ready on Sunday or Monday at 18.5.

991 and 873 naylor 2009 (1147 shenoha 2008 x 1119 mcmullen) are both beauties of plants and easily trainable. my 1147 had a stretch where it threw doubles of everything on just one side of the plant. it also produced a secondary that was a flat vine with 3 or 4 of everything coming out of the tip at once. it also threw stunted secondaries every other junction on the good side of singles. with some back angle training of the secondaries on the stunted sign and pruning one of the secondaries on the doubled up side, you wouldn't even notice the deformities now. and my 7 day old pumpkin on it is chugging nicely already early on. hopefully its got some mutant strength. lol.
