Our temps will be hitting 100+ for the next two months. I'm ordering shade cloth (I know - a little late in the year) and I'm wondering if I should have enough to cover the sides of the patch enclosure or just the top. The reason I would do sides is the height will be about 6ft and without sides the plants will get unfiltered direct sunlight in the first and last couple hours of sunlight. I'm ordering 22% white.

I'm in east county San Diego and live on a wind swept ridge of a valley. The winds from the west are blowing which means the Santa Ana's from the east are on the way. I've already had the side blow off the netting. I'd buy an abundance of the material in case you lose some in the winds. I'm already sweating fire season. We've had a couple of smokers already this year along the ridgeline. Good luck up there.

Endless, I'm down here in San Diego too. I know it gets warmer there than it does here during most summer days. You might consider 40% shade cloth. I have my 901 Hunt under 22% shade cloth and the newest growth is getting burned on days in the 90's. It really depends on your plants ability to handle the heat. My friends 991 Urena does fine under 22%. So 40% may be safer. Shade cloth on the sides would be a good thing especially in that late afternoon heat.

Early morning and late afternoon sun is not that intence -- what you are trying to prevent is that intence midday sun that causes the plant to wilt (floppy leaves). IMO as long as you are preventing wilt you are OK.

In Fresno you will need shade cloth and misters.I used to teach in Los Banos and was married in Fresno. We get the heat in Sac. Valley.
