Since posting that the Memorial site was ready to go there hasn't been one submission. I offered to enter the information myself still nothing. Ken Armstrong, Buddy Connoly, Paul Tackett to name but a few passed recently. Please, if there is someone in the pumpkin community that has passed and you have a pic and a nice story, let me know. No one can say they are too busy unless they place growing fruit above what is truly important. I drive 80 miles to work and back every day and still have time for diary entries yadda yadda. I challenge every heavy hitter out there to step up and acknowledge the accomplishments of those who have passed. Sorry for the bluntness of this message, maybe I expected more from the BP community,

Andy,
I can only presume some old timers have passed. It would be awkward to name, names that I 'am not sure of but time and age must surely have played into some. Please email me directly and I can give you a few that I think may have passed on by now. One I know for sure is Eddy Albert. He was a supporter of giant pumpkin growing and had grown some at his home in California. Joel Holland my have photos.

Andy,
Further - I feel you are doing a great service to the giant pumpkin growing community. This could be considered the ultimate memorial hall of fame! Many have had a hand in taking the sport-hobby to where it is today and honoring then is paramount! As the season draws on and growers have more time this will be addressed. You keep with it, and thank you.

Serious growers all recognize the value in this effort. Your work is appreciated. But this is the time of year such growers are...growing.

Ray, I will contact you very soon for some information including your dad that you mentioned in earlier posts, thank you. Pete Glasier provided some information for Art Quinn and Norm Gallegher. Gary Burke is going to send me some information on Ken Armstrong. Thanks very much to them for taking the time to do this.

The website is www.pumpkinlink.com/memorial and was put together by Jamie Johnson. It is still a work in progress, there are 9 names now but only a few are complete because of missing information.

The site has two dates for Howard Dill's birth, 1925 and 1934. Which one is correct?

1934 is correct, I didn't even notice the 1925 at the end of the article that I pasted from a CTV story on Howard Dill. Thanks for spotting that, I'll change it right away.

Hi Andy:
There are a couple of people I would have liked to nominate but I do not have the correct information.
Paul McIntyre of Canada should be on the list. I have no details on Paul other than to say he personified the spirit of growing.
My other nominee would be a gentlement from the US midwest (Ohio I think) who held a picnic each year at his farm and it was wonderful. I hope someone can provide the details.

Thanks Bob, maybe someone out there can help fill in the blanks. The site is coming along with a small glitch here and there but nothing big. Ideally I would like to have the birth and death dates and a photo would be nice, but if all you have is a nice short story, similar to what Don Yound did for Darrel Walters then that's great too.

Bob, I just entered Paul McIntyre to the site. I have a date of passing of May 31, 2008 and I copied and pasted the obit that you posted at that time. Any other pumpkin related info would be welcome.

Pap, you are correct, thanks for the origin of the tailgate. I had the pleasure to meet Dick at the last meeting held at Guelph University.
My favorite Baird story at Guelph, several growers were having a serious conversation about pumpkins. Dick walks up and says just remember billions of people do not give a damn.

Bob, I added the pic of Paul standing with Fred Calai. I will take a little from each of your recollections and put something on Dick's memorial. There is already a pic of him, this will go along nicely, thanks.

Barb Kincaid belongs on the memorial list. Barb lived outside of Olando and grew pumpkins in her front yard, much to the chagrin of her neighbors.
Barb was from Albany NY and used the weigh off schedule to visit her parents.
Barb was a very active member of Mallorn and was very aware of pumpkin diseases.
Rocky Rockwell of PA organized a seed auction for Barb's grand daughter who was the center of her's and her husbands life.
Barb was willing to promote pumpkin growing at all costs. Mike Nepereny and I organized a weigh off at a local garden center and Barb, her husband and granddaughter drove from Orlando's hospital emergency room to attend a very small event. Barb had several medical problems which finally claimed her life.
Barb Kincaid was a trooper of the first order.

Barb is on the site now Bob, I paraphrased the above and used it for the text. If you have a pic send it to me and we'll get it added.
