Many of you have asked and many have offered their support for my Woodchuck Problem. Well I didn't catch the pig but I think I may have mamaged to keep him at bay. first I took the conservation fence and put it around each of the plants. Then buried it 5 inches down. Mixed around the fence some "critter Ridder from the makers of have a heart traps. Then put some laundry baskets on the tender leaues. Then Moth balls around the wooded areas. I went a step further and got Cyote urine and put it in the special bottles creating a invisible barrier around the immidiate area. Then in a totally free area I put the baited traps out. I hope I'm not premature but this certainly is a good start. I check the fence 3 times a day to insure no digging took place. Hope this helps some of you growers who have a mutant critter out there. To date I've caught. 1 huge Raccoon 1 fat possum. 5 squirels and 1 smelly skunk no chucks. Thank you all for the advice. I hope that this post can help someone else who has this potential problem. Then again I'll be having to tweak this method from time to time. I still think that it was a raccoon that did all that damage. I guess time will tell.

I have a problem with coyotes, gophers and the lot. One thing I found that seems to work is coyote urine. Seriously. I put out trays and the scent really eliminates the activity. Another thing I've heard is to use Lion dung...don't call them the king of beasts for nothing. All animals know what to fear. I'm still afraid of my wife if the phase of the moon is right.

Kenny if your a hunter, u should have Matthews bow, now would be a good time for target practice. Deer season is only about 4 months away! Plus its a good challenge to try to kill a groundhog.

I've always said woodchucks are cut until they eat your leaves.

They have viciouse appitites and will eat the tips of your vines. Causing you to have to prune it back. That certainly would put a damper on the season. I made a decision. I'm not pruining any of the plants as they already have taken such a big hit.

fences don't work as chucks can climb.
don't leave traps open at night, as chucks are not nocturnal but skunks coons and possums tend to be active at night.
bait trap with green apples and margarita mix, yes i said margarita mix the frozen kind. cover trap floor with cardboard as they do not like the feel of it on their feet. disguise trap on outside with brush.
we have a professional trapper that my work hires to rid the grounds of chucks i learned these tips from him.

Personally the ground hog issue is far to over blown give them lead poisoning or get one of these:
http://www.rodenator.com/
I don't want to spend the money for one so the guy's in the shop are working on it. They have every thing they need but the delivery system with igniter and trust me they will figure it out.
I am sure I will not be on the PITA Christmas card list but I will say I do not have a chuck/hog issue.

it is BS that woodchucks can't jump -- they can even fly! I traped one and when I released it it took off like a bat and made a flying leap out of my van. I about pp my pants! Next time I'll make sure its out of the vehicle befor messing with the trap. BTW, I bated the trap with strawberries and vegie leftovers and < 24hrs had it. You have to give-em something good because they love pumpkins!

Here in the hills of Tennessee, we call them whistle pigs. I strung deer netting over my strawberries to keep the birds out. Managed to catch a mad fox squirrel 3 days in a row. Might work for pigs.
