I have had two females on the main vine. Both grew for about 6 day and then shriveled up and died. I feel like I am in college again. I throw out my best moves and nothing. I wasn’t going to pollinate them as they where to close to the stump. It does worry me for later flowers. What could be the cause’s?

Thanks

Chad

Did you have viable males..did you actually pollinate them. Rain can cause aborts also as it washes the pollen off.
There are many factors

What is the length of the mv and age of the plant? Have you been feeding them with nitrogen? Might not be old enough to hang on to them. I know when fruit trees cannot support fruit they drop them.

they were only 4-6' out on MV. They didn't even open. Showed themselves for a few days and shrivled. There has been a lot of rain and Humidity. I haven't given any N for quite some time.

drench and foliar some higher p fert. i like the agro k product vigor cal phos. or vcp that is 0-13-0 and helps give the flowering stage a kick in the ass sometimes when it needs it. you can find a bloom buster or higher p fert at most garden centers. also if its too hot, they will abort also or stop development early before flowering. you can use a small white patio table or chair as a nice method of shading. if temps go above 85, all my females get shaded with a small table including the main tip with mini blossoms tucked within the cluster. i like to mist the plants on high clear uv days even if its only 75 degrees when prime females are on the main to keep the plants cool and the surrounding soil cool cuz reflective heat off of soil near solstice time can add extra sometimes overlooked heat. the sun is strong right now and anything to take stress off the plant when pollinating prime keepers should be considered. also a fan blowing on the blossom 24/7 during heat spells on the enite female development stage should be considered for temps in the high 80s or 90s to increase your odds. and the ice bottle with fan blowing across it to the blossom can be added the day before, day of and day after pollination attempt to again increase odds.

It could be to that with such a young plant it is still in the growth phase and hasn't made the hormonal change to growing fruit. Give it a week or 2 and I bet your females will be alot more robust.
